Clocks in the house

I've had all manner of clocks in my house, from wind up, battery operated, and electric. I've had issues with all of them. Sure batteries die, electronics give out, and you have to remember to actually wind the wind up clocks. The only one that doesn't act strange is the one on my cell phone.

Time seems to stand still

It's no secret that time has a way of speeding up and slowing down. We've all had those days at work where we note the time and what feels like an hour has passed we look at the clock only to find that only ten minutes has passed. Other days seem to fly by. Here in this house, as I've been told by plenty of people over the years, time basically stands still. If we're out in the woods on my property, time inside the woods seems to stand still while it flies by outside.

The ticking of the clocks

I have stopped using electric clocks in the house. the last one i had would have random words that would flash across the digital face where only numbers should be. I was a very basic no frills digital alarm clock. I got rid of it after a year. I then decided that battery operated clocks were a bit safer. the battery operated clocks wouldn't last very long. One such clock I replaced the batteries and it had simply stopped working, yes the replacement batteries were good, So, I simply left the batteries out and left the clock on the mantel above the fireplace. A few months, maybe even a year later, I was sitting in the Livingroom and I started hearing this loud ticking sound. I searched all over the Livingroom, dinning room, and kitchen thinking it was maybe some appliance making the noise. It wasn't until I got close to the fireplace that I realized where the ticking was coming from, The clock on the mantel with no batteries. I took the clock down and checked the back to make sure no one had put batteries in the clock and found that there were no batteries in the clock, yet it kept ticking. I don't remember the exact time the clock started ticking, But later that evening i got a call from my daughter saying an acquaintance of hers had gone missing. a day later, the clock stopped at 8pm. I get a call from my daughter at about 9pm that night, she was crying saying they had found her acquaintance unresponsive an hour and a half earlier, brought him to the hospital where he passed away at exactly 8pm that night, the same exact time the clock stopped ticking. The clock sat stationary and silent for years afterward. That is until there was an accident that involved a neighbors' son. A side by side accident where the boy, who was about sixteen, had hit a culvert on the property and flipped the side by side onto himself. again the clock started to tick. This time it would tick for three days as the boy laid in the hospital on life support fighting for his life. Ultimately, as before, the clock stopped ticking just as the boy had taken his last breath.

The clock still remains on the mantel to this day, still without batteries, and still ticking away the hours and minutes before a death.

Conclusion

In conclusion I leave you with this: Time is fluid, It weaves it's way through our lives every second of the day, seemingly bending us to it's will. Time waits always watching silently. It can speed up and slow down at the same time, It only stops for us when it's our time to leave this plane of existence.

Interesting. and a little eerie. I love how you put time into perspective at the end.

Thank you !!! Honestly, it was a bit unsettling when we first noticed this occurrence, but like everything else that goes bump in the night, we've just grown accustomed to it.
